Western MassachusettsJohanna Bates has a somewhat unused B.A. in Religious Studies from Brown University. She became an accidental techie in 1999 and has been working in non-profit technology ever since.
Formerly a web technologist at the WGBH Educational Foundation in Boston, she spent the last eight years at Community Partners, a statewide health care reform organization. As Community Partners’ director of technology and strategy, she built and maintained their web presence and helped the organization choose and use technology to advance mission goals.
Now an independent consultant with OpenIssue, LLC, Johanna works with organizations and foundations to help them make smart and strategic decisions about Internet tools, and is proficient in building and maintaining websites in many different kinds of content management systems, including Drupal, Joomla! and Wordpress. She has been an active member of NTEN for six years and has served for the last two years on the NTC agenda steering committee. She lives in western Massachusetts with her partner, her little one, and their eccentric pets.
